Governor Parnell Names 2014 “Education Season”

By CAK Staff

Alaska’s governor has set his sights on using technology and the Internet to improve education.

During his January 22 state of the state address, Governor Parnell named 2014 the “education season” and announced a host of education initiatives, one of which will focus on using broadband and video conferencing in schools. The Alaska Digital Teaching Initiative, he promised, will give students access to high-quality teachers and instruction. The $5 million in funding will provide for technology that makes it possible for teachers to video conference with remote schools and teach in real time.
