Small Alaska School Gets Connected Thanks to Apple, ConnectED

By CAK Staff

A small school in rural Alaska is getting connected, thanks to an educational technology grant from Apple Inc.

According to an article in Alaska Dispatch News, each student and teacher at the K-12 school in Nanwalek, Alaska, will receive an iPad. In addition, teachers will receive a MacBook Pro and the classrooms will have Apple TV.

“Having this exciting technology will attract students to school and increase attendance. This type of learning is interactive and focused,” principal Nancy Kleine wrote in an email published in the article. “If we can engage kids, if we can help them want to come to school in Nanwalek, we can improve their learning, and hence their skills and ability to contribute,” she added.

The award is part of the White House’s ConnectED initiative and Nanwalek is the only school in Alaska to receive such a grant.
